The Twelve Communities (District 4 of Calgary Police Services) are vibrant, inclusive and free of crime.


12CSI is a local crime prevention collaborative that will foster community action on the issue of crime prevention by providing support, facilitation and advocacy, thereby creating safer neighbourhoods for all who live, work and volunteer in the Twelve Communities.

12CSI, through the Planning Council, its Action Committees or its Task Teams, believes …
  • Community members have the right to feel safe in their community,
  • Every member of our diverse community has the right to be treated with dignity and respect
  • A community working together is essential for crime prevention.
  • An enhanced feeling of community pride and a greater involvement of residents,
  • More involvement by children and youth which will lead to a reduction in youth crime,
  • A greater understanding of our diverse community and a greater involvement from our diverse community to help eliminate hate crimes and build inclusion, and a sustainable and effective organization,
  • Raised community expectations and standards of the residents in the 12 communities.
Strategic Directions
  • Community Education, to increase the knowledge and awareness of services, programs and resources to local individuals and groups.
  • Community Engagement, to increase the involvement of people in the local crime prevention programs and strategies.
  • Community Energy, to harness the local resources to improve cooperation, coordination and collaboration.
  • Community Evaluation, to keep the focus on the issue of crime prevention and ensure its longevity.
Strategic Objectives

12CSI will achieve the above by focusing on these Two Objectives - Creating a measurable Sense of Safe Spaces and Creating a measurable increase in awareness and education - using the following Tactics:

  1. 12CSI has honourable and noble goals, but possesses only finite resources, to achieve on impact in our community and our mission and vision we will:
    1. Pick one or two of the highest priority issue(s)
    2. Focus on the highest priority community
    3. Focus on measureable impact
    4. Focus on strength based positive messaging

  2. Creating a measurable Sense of Safe Spaces, through the these actions:
    1. Increasing the Visibility of 12CSI's work in the community
    2. Being Inclusive of and reflecting our community
    3. Identifying and addressing community safety concerns, i.e. homelessness
    Specifically, our working groups will:
    • Youth: will partner with schools
    • Action: will create a plan to be present in a community
    • Diversity: plan to engage the community and make people feel welcome
    • Communications: gather data & facts and develop messaging to support our work

  3. Creating a measurable increase in awareness and education of safety issues with individual residents, families and groups, through these actions:
    1. Working with community association(s), schools and community groups to identify their needs
    2. Creating on-on-one, door-to-door and small group conversations
    3. Breaking down the fear based myths of the state of safety and crime,
    4. Delivering education based on the strengths of the community
    Specifically, our working groups will:
    • Youth: host symposia
    • Action: raise awareness of community participation through voter engagement
    • Diversity: host educational sessions based on food feel welcome
    • Communications: develop a social media plan based on 12CSI's objectives
